I have....thoughts.
It’s difficult because I both enjoyed the book but also felt meh about it.
I can tell after the Hating Game and this book that Sally has an interesting way of writing. She words things very differently that I found enjoyable in the Hating Game, but I did not like it in here. Our main character was a bit everywhere in the head and it made me feel jittery and strange reading her story in a way I did not like.
I felt like there was a lot of missing holes in the story that needed to be filled.
Examples:
-Tom disappeared for how long? A month? Why was that thought of as okay when he is the man in control of building? It felt really irresponsible and wrong for him to do that.
-Are we supposed to like Loretta? Why was she so mean about sending Darcey away because she thought she’d ruin Tom? That’s really rude.
-Why did she let Truly off for betraying her trust so easily?
-I was confused on where exactly her paragraph lived. How far? Why didn’t they come around?
-There was no actual real discussion about how they treated her growing up and how her grandma basically acted like she was a nuisance to the family.
-Why didn’t we get to see the final project? And how come there was no extra scenes with the workers?
Sally really does write things like they are fit perfectly for a film. The Hating Game was still enjoyable to read even though it was film ready. This book however felt like I was reading a messy script, and I would have preferred to have watched it instead of reading it.
The storyline is great if only the writing wasn’t so frustrating. I rated it a 3.
