Believe me, i'm lying by: jordan lynde BOOK REVIEW

Starting out I want to mention the background on this story. This book was originally a Wattpad story, but it underwent changes and managed to get published! Yay congrats! The reason I knew of this book is because it is actually the first book, I ever read on Wattpad. I remember downloading the app and discovering this story and immediately reading it. Back then I was amazed, people were writing and putting their works out there for everyone to see! That’s so cool! I remember loving the story and the general guidelines of it too. That’s why it sucks to much to say reading the published version I really didn’t like it.

Starting at the overall plot line it just sucked. There are so many unbelievable annoying aspects that I could not look over. The biggest annoyance to me was Harley not allowing Will to foster or adopt them! Like what? That’s ridiculous! Genuinely so stupid and irresponsible of her. Will was insane to allow her to keep acting that way. She should have been assigned a social worker who would be up her butt. I can imagine social workers sucking, but she never even mentioned one! There was just a brief mention of her lawyer who wasn’t paying attention to them. It was just extremely not believable. Also, the landlord was nice enough to allow a 17-year-old to live there, and happily discounted her rent?

Harley mentions how she never gets it easy. EXCUSE ME! Everything in the paragraph above is her getting it easy! Not to mention Anthony happily giving her a full-time shift and not caring that a child was teaching his son? Or that the principle didn’t try to press charges? Harley got it easy every 5 seconds and she wasn’t struggling at all. She didn’t even act like juggling school, teaching, and waitressing was an issue at all. That should have been really difficult for her but instead it just seemed like a throw in to help the plot get her close to Oliver.

There was unnecessary drama with the whole, ‘which guy do I like?’ Oliver’s backstory was kinda just there. Will was a throwaway character so the author could dispose of Elliott easily. The random flirting with students like that was okay was super stupid. She constantly said it was fine when people insulted her. It was just a mess of things placed in the book and it shouldn’t have been.

The entirety of the book was just completely based off of these crazy unrealistic aspects and that’s what ruined the book for me. I love how it was supposed to be a fun book about kids getting a second chance and bettering themselves. Basically, it wanted to have a plot like the movie Freedom Writers, except the author wanted romance with a hot male character.

Super annoying for me, I almost quit multiple times but I forced my way through it! The one bright side of this book was Elliott. God bless the kid, he was adorable and I wanted to squish him every time he said, ‘Pig is pig’.

Overall, I’d rate the book a 3 out of 10! Very low, I feel bad for putting it so low but come on! Not believable at all!
