Red, White, & Royal Blue

Book Review

<=== Here is a short video of me gushing over this fantastic book!

This book. THIS book. THIS BOOK.

I love this book so much it’s a bit ridiculous. Genuinely one of my top favorites this year AND one of my top favorite contemporary standalones over all.

Such a great book. There is essentially nothing wrong with this book. At all. That’s kinda nuts! Each of the characters had me feeling some form of emotion towards them no matter what it was. The dialogue was witty. The plot was dramatic. The information on policies and ect was engaging. It was all just great.

The only things I wish we got definite/more info on:

-June’s Ex: I thought for sure they were gonna get back together and she was gonna admit to moving back to LA.

-Henry’s Pills: Are they depression pills? Anxiety?

-June’s Career Goals/Mom: Did her mind change about her mother? Did she decide to continue helping her as well? Did the anger go away?

-Nora and June: Am I dumb or did they have a threesome with Pez?

Things I Wish We Got To See:

-The house tour!!

-Alex eventually showing/telling Henry about the magazine story.

-The move to New York! What’s the apartment like?! How’s law school gonna be??

The entirety from the cake smashing to the closet takedown was so funny. They had to both do things so over the top that it was great for the scenario. 75,000 dollars on a cake, I mean geesh! And the slight fight in the closet was hilarious with the discussion in the closet as well. The entire transition from hate, to best friend, to lover was amazing.

I can’t believe Henry ghosted Alex twice! TWO. TIMES! The first time was crazy because it’s obvious Alex was super into it. I can understand the fear and panic so I let that one slide. The second ghosting was too much however! Alex was going to admit he was in love with him! They became best friends and managed to build a beautiful relationship and he just threw it all away in fear. Thank God for Alex’s stubbornness. The entire time he stormed the palace I was cheering him on to kick Henry’s butt. Luckily Henry realized he’s an idiot and made up for it with the adorable museum scene and admitting he was in love with him.

Both of their friends and siblings were the absolute BEST. Let’s not forget everyone essentially already knowing Alex liked men lol. They each added great parts into the story with scenes like the club, New Year’s Eve, and just the normal times they hung out.

The moment when Zahra discovered the Prince and Alex together had me dying. Every bit with Zahra in it was hilarious! I can’t believe she’s engaged to Shaan! That’s so fun! And with Henry and Alex being together it makes it easier for the two of them to be together too. Though I still don’t understand how they dated enough so far away to fall in love in the first place but okay.

Alex’s mom finding out was an entirely different thing. She is so funny with her darn power-points and with being a mom first and foremost! I love the advice she gave him and her concern for being safe haha. I also love his dad so much. His relationships with all of his family is very heart warming.

Their emails were one of my favorite parts of the book. How beautifully they were written and how they bared their souls. The fact that it got leaked for the world to see was so incredibly sad. I wasn’t upset about the paparazzi photos; I was upset that the private things they shared went out for everyone to see. I hated that for the two of them. I hate Richards guts, HA at that sucker losing, and cheers to Luna for coming out helping them and getting his revenge done.

Alex’s family did a great job handling the truth leaking. I was upset with them making the two of them fake date, but when it was undeniable, they asked what he wanted and did it. Henrys family however stunk, and by family, I mean his gran. That Queen sucks butt! Yet it was a good thing to happen because it helped Henry become honest and happy with himself and helped his mom snap back. The unity of the people supporting them with their shirts, rally’s, and Han’s and Lea artwork was very emotional. To see all of the love people shared at them being in love was beautiful. Ahh! The official pictures were so cute!

I honestly wish we got so much more of this story. It was all done so well. No one who is team red or team blue would be offended in this book. There’s literally nothing about this book that I can see someone pointing at and saying, ‘it sucks because of blah blah.’ Just beautifully written, especially for someone’s debut novel!

Obviously, you can tell I absolutely loved this book. 5, 5, 5, 5 STARS!
