There's Something About Sweetie By: Sandhya Menon Book Review
Love. Love. Love. Love. Love.
5 happy stars!
This book is a new experience in the realm of books! I’ve only seen very few books that center around a fat character, and especially a female fat one at that.
I wish I would have had this book when I was younger so that it would have helped me through my insecurities at a young age. Unfortunately I’ve had my insecurities far too long of a time to have this book fix it all, but it was incredibly empowering.
Sweetie’s relationship with her mom was a very hard one to face. I’m very lucky to not have that all the time, but I have had my fair share of mean comments from parents. It’s a thing that happens to most fat people, parents always want the best for you and it does not come across right.
When Sweetie finally stood up for herself I was so proud! It is a hard thing to do but it is something that must be done for your mental health and the health of the relationship with your family.
Onto other things.
Recently I’ve discovered that I enjoy reading books revolving around different cultures. I find them very interesting to see how things like dating and home life are done in their culture.
The relationship between Ashish and Sweetie was so cute! Their dates were fun helping them grow to know each other. I must admit I did not like the time frame. I find it incredibly hard to believe they fell in love within a month with only 4-8 meetings? It made me slightly cringe to see that fast of a relationship, especially because they’re so young it just reminded me of stupid high school ‘I’m in love!’ bull.
Putting that aside I really enjoyed seeing the two of them together and their cute interactions. Every time Ashish freaked out about Sweetie being too cute I had to giggle.
Super fun quick read with select moments that hit a little too close to home.
Sassy Sweetie Project was a massive success.
